Chelsea today confirmed the contract extension of their defender Thiago Silva. Having had a successful start at the London club that involved winning the most respected trophy in Europe, Champions League for the first time in his career, the 37 signed a new contract that will see him play for the blues till the end of the 2022/23 season.
Through their own Website(link), Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia praised Thiago Silva's experience, leadership and performances that has been and will remain of core importance to their squad. 'So we are hugely pleased to extend his contract by another year', she added.
‘We look forward to his continued influence as we seek honours this season and next, and more of the qualities that have led to him having such a big impact for us on and off the pitch.’
T Silva, whose contract was set to expire this season joined the West London giants under the reign of Frank Lampard in 2020 after leaving Paris Sainte Germain as a free agent during the summer transfer window.
Despite a number of defenders at Chelsea who have not expressed their interest in extending their contracts, Thiago Silva has consiquently expressed so much affection and passion in the West London based club. Thiago Silva’s new contract will run until the conclusion of the 2022/23 season. T Silva, 37 has been key in the performance of the club especially his incomparable role in the defence.
After putting pen to paper, Thiago Silva, talking to the club website, added: ‘To play here with Chelsea is a real pleasure. I never thought I would play for three years here in this great club so I’m very happy to stay for another season.'
